Other places to visit is Fort Aguada in Candolim, take a walk along the cliff to the right of the fort an experience the spectacular views that is quite breathtaking.
A Nice story
A couple who have been coming to Goa for many years, were feeling Goa had lost the attraction that once inspired them to return year after year. Well to the story! they where dropping of some friends who had been visiting them in their apartment in Calangute. The friends where staying in Porvorim, which is about 4 miles away from Calagute. The driver notices a scooter following them and thought it strange, but took no notice. It wasnt until the scooter followed them into their hotel that the driver became a bit suspicious. The driver got out of the jeep and approached the two boys on the scooter to find out why they were following them. The two young Goan boys told the driver that his wife's handbag had fallen from the Jeep in Calangute, so they had followed him to return the bag with all its contents. They told one of Goa Travel employees, that this incident has just restored their faith in the Goan people.
Words of Warning Although Goa is a very beautiful place, you must make yourself aware of the dangers and keep yourself safe. Like all tourist destinations you are advised to keep a hold of your personal belongings at all times as there have been many occasions where women walking along the high street have had their bag swiped from their sholder by passing bikes.
Pedestrians whilst in Goa you will be walking with the traffic, yes no pavements. Some drivers will tear up the roads with no regard for anyone. Try and keep as close to the edge as possible and always carry a touch with you; the roads are very uneven with pot-holes everywhere. Parent’s buggy's are not suitable for these roads, although as a conveience, use a carrying sling if possible and for longer journeys take a taxi.
Oh yes about taxies they will charge you according to your skin colour, how long you have been in Goa, and how many times you have been to Goa, take note these questions will be asked. This is a tourist resort and by God you get charged tourist prices, it's not just the taxi drivers that wont to ripe you off either. To give you an example I was talking to a couple of holiday makers, who have returned to Goa a few times, should have known better, but hey you are on holiday after all, and it’s a lot cheaper than at home. The other half of the couple went for a shave, face massage , hair cut all over razor about No 2. First of all you need to know how much a local would pay for this (well about Rs 50-70/- and not much more), this man paid Rs 600/- Plus gave Rs 100/- tip. The problem! we don't know how much to pay and to our standards this is cheap, but hay Rs 530/- profit and Rs 100/- tip that mans living standard is probably much more privileged than yours back from where you come from. The Barber is out to make, he aint you’re pal, but he is building another floor on his already five bed roomed house. There I rest my case. What to do. Remember what ever you may think about these very nice people they are here to make money.
Don't get the wrong impression not all are here to rip you, some just wont to make a living and of course a good one like us all. We only wont to tell you how things work here and expose the people that exploit us. We will expose anyone we think is playing the cheating game. If you have any tales to tell us that would benefit tourist and alike we would love to hear from you. Please drop us a line.

The Coconut Tree
Some say the coconut tree is a sign of romance, apart from a kiss and cuddle under the tree. The precious water it gives is full of potassium and other manuals. The juice from the green coconut is recommended for heart, liver and kidney disorders, as well as gonorrhoea.
One tree can produce up-to 50 coconuts, and the only way to harvest the coconut is by climbing the tree and cutting down the bunch of coconuts. The tree grows near the sea, so that the roots can find moisture. The roots from the tree provide a dye and the trucks are used to stabilize buildings. The sap from the unopened clusters of flowers is used to make sugar, vinegar, and the famous alcoholic knock your socks off coconut fenny (not recommended to be drunk in large quantities). The leaves are used to make mats, baskets and hats. Coir is the fibre from the husk, used to make matting; Coir is also exported to other countries.
The dried meat (that’s the white stuff we eat) of the coconut is called copra. Oil is pressed from copra, major uses for the oil is soap and margarine. The left over meat is fed to cattle and still contains lots of good minerals. The dried meat can be used for candies, cake, cookies and pies. Most Goan dishes require coconut, but don't be surprised if you can't taste the coconut.
